Presented on October 28, 2020
The purpose of this webinar is to explore the Social Determinants of Health (SDH) in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. The SDH are the conditions in which people are born, grow, live and work. These circumstances are shaped by the distribution of money, power, and resources at global, national, and local levels. The SDH not only inform the conditions that people live in, but also affect people’s quality of life and life expectancy. COVID-19 has had an increased impact on individuals with select social circumstances. Considering the SDH will help centre equity in addressing service and outcome disparities that marginalized individuals might experience as a result of COVID-19. This webinar will explore how the COVID-19 pandemic has accentuated existing structural and systemic inequities and resulted in even greater inequities in health outcomes across our communities. We will share practices and resources to support leaders to address SDH as part of the COVID-19 preparedness and response.
