The Canadian College of Health Leaders celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2020: an incredible 50 years of providing leadership development, tools, knowledge and networks to members so that they can become high impact leaders in Canadian healthcare. We are proud to celebrate this milestone with our community of 20 chapters across the country, our staff and volunteers, our 3,700 members and 80 corporate members, and our numerous partners, sponsors and collaborators. Together, we continue to promote lifelong learning and professional development while recognizing leadership excellence.
The College was founded in 1970 by a group of hospital administrators from across Canada who came together with one goal in mind: to create the first national organization dedicated solely to the needs of health services executives. Originally known as the Hospital Administrators Council of Canada, the organization then became the Canadian College of Health Service Executives before being renamed the Canadian College of Health Leaders in 2010.
Today, the College continues to grow and evolve. We are proud of the tremendous momentum we are experiencing with the success of our members and with the incredible work of our volunteers and staff. Our local chapters are energized and engaging members locally through a variety of events and initiatives, we are signing up a record number of new members, we are developing new valuable partnerships, our Healthcare Management Forum journal continues to provide stimulating, thought-provoking information on solutions and leading practices, and we are consistently implementing the LEADS in a Caring Environment leadership capabilities framework in new organizations across Canada. The College has recently launched a revised version of the CHE program (CHE Select), and continues to support health leaders in every sector and region, from every professional background and at any stage of their career.
We invite all College members and our extended community to celebrate with us throughout 2020. This year’s Honouring Health Leadership event, where we annually recognize the recipients of the CCHL National Awards Program, will feature special celebrations to commemorate the 50th anniversary. College chapters will also host local events during the year, mostly organized around their annual general meetings. We encourage you to stay tuned and keep an eye out for other events and activities during the year.
