The Canadian College of Health Leaders is proud to announce that Island Health, formally known as the Vancouver Island Health Authority (VIHA), was named recipient of the 2020 Energy and Environmental Stewardship Award.
Island Health is committed to minimizing its environmental impact, in order to support the health of their patients, staff, and communities. Over the past decade, the BC health authority has shown its commitment by advancing energy and environmental stewardship best practices throughout the organization.
Since 2007, Island Health’s energy use intensity declined over 11%, with a cumulative impact of 3.5 million dollars in annual cost savings. As Island Health reduces energy consumption and electrifies building systems, greenhouse gas emissions have reduced by 18% from peak levels in 2011. In addition, water use is decreasing year after year.
The Energy and Environmental Stewardship Award recognizes a progressive healthcare organization that has implemented organizational wide initiatives demonstrating environmental responsibility through the reduction of energy usage, the preservation of natural resources and effective waste diversion solutions.
The award is sponsored by Honeywell. Honeywell invents and manufactures technologies that address some of the world’s most critical challenges around energy, safety, security, productivity and global urbanization.
