The Canadian College of Health Leaders is proud to announce that Humber River Hospital was named recipient of the 2021 Excellence in Patient Safety Award.
At Humber River Hospital (HRH), technology is being leveraged to achieve high reliability, a key strategic direction to consistently deliver the safest, highest quality care. One of the most profound technological advancements that HRH has implemented to advance its safety agenda is the closed-loop medication system.
The implementation of the closed-loop medication system required an interprofessional and cross-functional approach to fully integrate the requirements of each respective discipline and service across a five-year time span. Each stage of the implementation was carefully planned and executed to enable nurses, physicians, pharmacists, and other clinicians to learn and incorporate the automated components of the system into their practice.
Today, we see the tremendous benefits of their commitment to leverage technology in order to enhance medication safety for patients and providers. The implementation of the closed-loop medication system at HRH has saved lives, safeguarded clinicians, and created efficiencies.
This Excellence in Patient Safety Award recognizes individuals and teams that are committed to improving patient safety practices within the healthcare environment, through leadership, culture, best practices, innovation and change management expertise.
The award is sponsored by BD-Canada, one of the largest global medical technology companies in the world and is advancing the world of health by improving medical discovery, diagnostics and the delivery of care.
This award is part of our CCHL National Awards Program. and will be presented at the virtual Honouring Health Leadership event on June 16, 2021.
