Victoria/Ottawa – The Canadian College of Health Leaders (CCHL) has awarded LEADS certification to the Royal Roads University’s Master of Arts in Leadership – Health Specialization (MAL-H). The partnership agreement provides MAL-H participants with an opportunity to obtain their Certified Health Executive (CHE) designation while completing their studies.

Through this partnership, graduates of the MAL-H program have the option to join like-minded health leaders across the country that are committed to life-long leadership development, community building, and health system transformation.”
The CHE designation is the only leadership designation in Canada for all health leaders and is essential for career advancement. Other benefits of the CHE designation include support for lifelong learning in health services leadership, assistance with career advancement, and peer recognition.
This collaboration will also allow both organizations to better address the constantly evolving needs of health leaders and align themselves with the LEADS in a Caring Environment framework—that includes leading self, engaging others, achieving results, developing coalitions, and systems transformation. This framework is a foundation for Canadian health leadership development and defines the knowledge, skills and attitudes a leader must have to positively contribute to the Canadian health care system.
Many aspects of the LEADS framework align with the competencies of the MA in Leadership – Health Specialization and we are delighted that students completing their MA in Leadership at Royal Roads University can simultaneously work towards their CHE designation.

The Master of Arts in Leadership – Health Specialization (MAL-H) is 36-credit program comprised of two years of interdisciplinary study delivered through a blended model which combines online learning and two 2-week on-campus learning experiences. The MAL-H program is led by experienced healthcare instructors and blends health topics with strategic leadership studies, enabling participants to navigate and drive change. This program will enable participants to adapt to the rapidly changing field of healthcare, which demands leaders with the skills to bring people together and identify problems, implement solutions, and achieve results.
The MAL-H program is an applied, competency-based program offering advanced leadership skills for experienced and emerging leaders in health organizations interested in developing more effective organizations and communities. Focusing on factors that contribute to successful problem solving and innovation, this program provides key skills and insights to professionals working in corporate, academic, public sector, and not-for-profit environments.
