The article “Motivating doctors into leadership and management: a cross-sectional survey”, co-authored by Jaason Geerts, PhD, Director, Research and Leadership Development at the Canadian College of Health Leaders, was the most downloaded research article in BMJ Leader in the last year. The lead author is Dr. Amanda Goodall, The Business School, University of London (UK) where Dr. Geerts is an Honorary Visiting Fellow.
The article asserts that a higher than expected 69% of physicians surveyed in Denmark would consider taking on a leadership role, irrespective of clinical specialty. The article finds that the two main incentives were: first, they thought they could have a positive impact, and second, being provided with the training to succeed in the role. The Canadian College of Health Leaders is exploring ways to address these two incentives.
