Kingston, ON / Ottawa, ON – Queen’s University, Doctor of Science in Rehabilitation and Health Leadership (DSc RHL) has renewed its strategic alliance with the Canadian College of Health Leaders (CCHL) to increase the leadership capabilities of health care managers in Canada.
Through this agreement, participants in the Doctor of Science in Rehabilitation and Health Leadership (DSc RHL) program will receive full equivalence to the Certified Health Executive (CHE) designation, the only certification program for Canadian health leaders. This program offers individual leaders several benefits including support for lifelong learning in health services leadership; assistance with career advancement; peer recognition and serves as an essential career designation.
Brenda Lammi, Vice President, Leadership and Professional Development at the CCHL, said: “We are excited about this collaboration with Queen’s University, who show their commitment to health leadership by committing to have the CHE as a preferred designation for their students. The DSc RHL program is the first doctorate program in Canada to be fully aligned to the CHE designation and the LEADS framework.”
Marcia Finlayson, Vice Dean (Health Sciences) and Director, School of Rehabilitation Therapy explained that: “The goal of the DSc RHL program is to develop ‘leader scholars’ who are able to apply theory and use rigorous methodologies to inform decision making. Our alliance with CCHL adds an important component in our students’ development, and will provide them with a network of learning and career opportunities post-graduation.”
This collaboration will also allow for both organizations to better address the constantly evolving needs of health leaders and align themselves with the LEADS in a Caring Environment framework. This framework is a foundation for Canadian health leadership development and defines the knowledge, skills and attitudes a leader must have to positively contribute to the Canadian health care system.

The Doctor of Science in Rehabilitation and Health Leadership (DSc RHL) is the first professional doctorate program at Queen’s University. The DSc RHL will train leader scholars who are able to apply theory and use rigorous methodologies to inform decision-making in rehabilitation and health settings across the country and around the globe.
The DSc RHL is a 36 month executive-style degree program that equips currently practicing rehabilitation and health professionals with the knowledge and skills they need to confidently pursue career opportunities that require advanced competencies in leadership, program development, applied research and evaluation, advocacy, change management, and knowledge translation.
