After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in economics from Transilvania Brasov University in Romania, Anca began her career with a company engaged in the import and export of products. Being very passionate about her work, she took courses in commercial law to obtain a certificate in law as well as courses to obtain a master’s degree in communication. This enabled her to better guide the negotiations of international commercial contracts in which she was involved. Armed with this experience, she then became director of a rapidly expanding private health clinic.
After settling in Canada, she decided to continue her studies at the Université de Montréal in order to obtain a master’s degree in health administration. Her managerial career in the health and social services began in 2011 as a quality and risk management advisor at Groupe Santé Arbec (a private grouping of long-term accommodation centres). She continued her career in this field as a senior consultant in risk and quality management at the CSSS (Centre de santé et des services sociaux) in the South of Lanaudière region then moved on to head of risk and quality management at the CIUSSS (Centre intégré universitaire de santé et des services sociaux) de l’Ouest de l’Île-de Montréal.
Since 2019, she has been assistant to the Deputy Director General at the CIUSSS, supporting large-scale projects as well as the coordination of all activities related to the program transformation process and the monitoring of performance indicators and targets.
When it came time to ask her why she decided to pursue a career in health, she replied, “the answer is very simple: I really enjoy helping others. Even though the managerial job is frequently done in the dark, it is quite beneficial for both the patients and the colleagues.”
Ms. Ghiran first became involved as a member of the College in 2010, and then obtained her Certified Health Executive (CHE) designation in 2014. An active participant in the training activities offered by the Quebec Chapter, she joined its executive committee in 2014. “The Canadian College of Health Leaders is little known throughout the province of Quebec. Since I started getting involved, I have had the opportunity to meet leaders in the health network, passionate people who put all their energy into promoting the Chapter. This gave me the enthusiasm to get involved in the work of the Chapter. Within the executive, I have been involved in several initiatives, but the one that is close to my heart is the continuing education program for members of the Quebec Chapter. I coordinated the work related to this initiative for several years . Participating in my local Chapter promotes the leadership of the health network,” she says.
Since her initial involvement with the College, Ms. Ghiran has made an exceptional contribution to her Chapter, of which she has been vice president since 2018. In recognition of her efforts, the Chapter Award for Distinguished Service was awarded to her in 2020 by the Quebec Chapter of the College.
